...zone of the zone...

Modernity Monday? = Electronica
Tonal Tuesday? = Jazz
Wild Wealth Wednesday? = Hip-Hop
Thick Thursday? = Soul
Funky Friday Freakout? = Whatever goes.
Get it?
So now that that's explained, I'll tell you about today's grab-bag. Both tracks, while dissimilar in initial genre, fit perfectly into a zoned-out set. Especially considering each cut only vaguely represents the typical output of said artist. Buddy is know mostly for his jazz and soul forays, with occasional dips in the late 70's disco sound (just like coke, everyone was doing it). This track sits oddly at the end of side two and gives off a steady rock beat with a gorgeously layered Rhodes backing Buddy's silky voice. An out of the ordinary track for the album and for the artist. My second selection, from my favorite ELO album 'Time', is covered in synths as usual, but features almost no vocals. It creates a mood that embodies the lyrics and allows your mind to wander into its enveloping sound. Sit back and enjoy these at work this afternoon and let's dream about the weekend.
